SunTrust Profit Rises on Investment Banking, Sale of Wealth Unit

SunTrust Banks (STI) said second-quarter profit rose on higher revenue from investment banking and the sale of an asset-management unit.

SunTrust Banks has appointed Paul Garcia, a former chairman and chief executive of Global Payments, to its board.

Garcia had been CEO of Global Payments and its predecessor companies since 1999. He stepped down as chairman in June. Garcia's appointment to SunTrust was effective Tuesday. Both Global Payments, a payments processor, and the $183 billion-asset SunTrust are based in Atlanta.

Garcia is also a director of Dun & Bradstreet and West Corp., and he is a former director of MasterCard International.
