Synovus Financial Promotes Execs at Holding Company And at Ala. Banks

Anthony to vice chairman of the board of the bank holding company. At subsidiaries of the holding company, Thomas A. Broughton 3d has been promoted to president and chief executive of First Commercial Bank in Birmingham, Ala., and L. Gwaltney McCollum Jr. to president and chief executive officer of First National Bank in Jasper, Ala. James H. Blanchard is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Synovus Financial. Mr. Oliver previously was chairman and chief executive of Synovus Financial Corporation of Alabama, formerly First Commercial Bancshares, and since 1965, chairman and CEO of First National in Jasper. Mr. Anthony's responsibilities include being executive supervisor of 10 Synovus banks. He previously was chairman and chief executive of First Commercial Bank in Birmingham and president of Synovus Financial Corporation of Alabama. Mr. Broughton has been president of First Commercial since 1985, when he co-founded the bank, has been a director of Synovus Financial Corporation of Alabama. Mr. McCollum has been president and chief operating officer of the Jasper bank since 1988.
