Tech Bytes: Consortium to Build Data-Mining Solution

Cap Gemini, Oracle Corp., KiQ, and Sun Microsystems Inc. have formed a joint venture to develop predictive data- mining technology for customer relationship management.

Oracle will supply the data warehouse and reporting technology; Sun is supplying the hardware platform and KiQ the predictive modeling tool. Cap Gemini will handle consulting and implementation.

Russel O. Forde, who runs North American business intelligence at Cap Gemini, said the consortium is a result of KiQ's success with its data- mining desktop application, Omega.

The Netherlands-based technology company had widespread success with Omega there and turned to Cap Gemini, which helped develop the software, to assist with building a version that could be scaled to the enterprise level.

The new version of Omega, based on client/server technology, will be called Omega+, Mr. Forde said.
