International Business Machines Corp. said it will join J.P. Morgan & Co.'s and PricewaterhouseCoopers' technical committee for FPML, the financial products markup language for derivatives.

IBM will also help those two FPML organizers put together seminars for industry participants. It is a show of support for the XML, or eXtensible Markup Language, approach to Web programming, from which FPML is derived.

Marie Wieck, director of XML technology for IBM, said the company would work with J.P. Morgan to expand the use of FPML specifications and support them with tools and client services.
