Tech Bytes: Identix Unit Ships Fingerprint ID System

The fingerprint security vendor Identix Inc. said its recently acquired subsidiary, Identicator Technology Inc., has shipped 100,000 units of the DFR-200 fingerprint verification system introduced last fall.

The shipments include the biometric network software BioLogon 1.0. The BioLogon 2.0 version, which supports smart cards and other enhancements, is currently in approximately 100 test sites, including Fortune 500 companies, Identix said.

Identix chairman and chief executive officer Randall C. Fowler said BioLogon is successfully fulfilling its desire to replace the dependence on passwords for network access.

Grant Evans, vice president of marketing and sales, said distribution through the original equipment manufacturers Compaq, Key Tronic, Cherry GmbH, and SCM Microsystems has "rapidly expanded the fingerprint biometric market."
