Periphonics Corp., a leader in call-center and computer telephony integration technology, said it has licensed speech recognition software from GTE Corp.'s BBN Technologies unit.

The software, Hark Recognizer, expands the range of large-vocabulary speech recognition options that Periphonics offers for automating customer service over the telephone.

"We anticipate applications utilizing the Hark software engine will be available on Periphonics' VPS/is platform in the middle of 1999," said Richard Rosinski, executive director of the company's advanced speech processing business development group.
