Tech Bytes: Softchec Uses Imaging In Proof-of-Deposit System

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Softchec Inc. recently released a software system designed to bring image technology to the proof-of-deposit function.

The software, known as Vision POD, runs on check processing hardware from Unisys Corp. of Blue Bell, Pa.

Vision POD has a graphical user interface and courtesy amount recognition capabilities, which enable the system to automatically "read" the amount fields on check images.

The software also has a power encoding module, which guides the process by which checks are imprinted with magnetic-ink renderings of the amount field.

The system - which starts at $345,000 including hardware, software, and services - also has bulk filing, batch correction, and balancing modules.

Softchec systems have been installed in over 100 institutions with check processing volumes of up to 600,000 items a day.
