Tech Bytes: Sovereign Sets Up Site To Teach Kids Banking

Sovereign Bancorp has created KidsBank.com, a site on the World Wide Web designed to help teach the basics of banking.

Visitors to the site join a tour with cartoon characters named Penny, who introduces the concept of money, and Dollar Bill, who teaches the importance of saving. Aimed at children ages 5 to 8, the site includes a quiz on what visitors learned and links to other financial sites.

"If we can educate people about good savings practices and how to use credit, we will be able to create more successful, educated customers," said Mary L. Orlando, senior vice president and director of marketing for the $10 billion-asset Sovereign.
