The Chicago security technology vendor said last week that Shanghai Sand would use its software to ensure that the Shanghai company's terminals comply with the Payment Card Industry data security standard and with Visa Inc.'s Payment Application Best Practices.

The terminals range from basic models for small merchants, using dial-up connections, to units designed to be part of an extensive payments network for large retailers that use high-speed Internet connections.

Trustwave provides a variety of data management and compliance management applications for payments companies.

Jinsong Ru, a Shanghai Sand vice president, said in a Trustwave press release that meeting the security standards "ensures that we have secured our payment application terminals from the moment a customer swipes their credit card through to the payment processor."
