TSYS Expands in Brazil and Japan

Total System Services Inc. announced last week the addition of infrastructure in Brazil and the expansion of service to a client in Japan.

The Columbus, Ga., processor said that in Brazil it would open an office in Campinas. It already has an office and a data center in Sao Paulo. The Campinas office would support Banco Carrefour SA, its first Brazilian client, as well as future clients.

"We view Brazil as a market that is strategic to TSYS' international expansion and are focused on developing the infrastructure to support a long-term presence in the region," Antonio Jorge de Castro Bueno, TSYS' director of business expansion in Brazil, said in a press release Wednesday.

TSYS also said that Toyota Finance Corp., a unit of Toyota Motor Corp. and already a client, would use its services for payment and processing on prepaid cards. The card would be issued by Toyota Finance to shoppers at a Yokohama shopping mall, Tressa Yokohama.

"As the world's third-largest card market, Japan has pioneered the development of e-money products, often presenting some of the most innovative ideas in the industry," Gaylon Jowers, the president of TSYS International, said in a press release Thursday.
