Shares in Citicorp rose in active trading Tuesday after Ronald I. Mandle of Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. raised his rating on the stock.

Mr. Mandle lifted his rating on the stock to "outperform," from "market perform," and increased his estimate of 1995 earnings per share to $6 from $5.85. He said that after recent discussions with management he became confident that the bank can meet its goal of keeping expenses to $10 billion in 1995.

The stock was up as much as 50 cents to $38.125.

Also up sharply for the day were shares of Bankers Trust New York Corp., which have been rebounding from a selloff prompted by concern over a decline in trading income in the first quarter. Bankers Trust closed at $69.50, up $1.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 10.42 points to 3,711.44.
