Most major bank stocks fell in moderate trading Tuesday as the slide in the overall stock market continued. The Dow lost 12.42 points, to reach 3,193,32. PNC Financial Corp., Pittsburgh, was among a handful of gainers, rising 12.5 cents to $27.25 in late trading. The biggest gain among large banks was by Northern Trust Corp., Chicago, up $1 to $61.

An American Banker article Tuesday about Fleet Financial Group, Providence, R.I., erroneously described the rating on its stock by Nancy A. Bush of Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co.

She repeated her neutral rating. Fleet's stock rose 12.5 cents, to $31,125, on Tuesday.
