Unisys, of Blue Bell, Pa., said it would offer VSoft's technology to allow companies to capture, validate, process, archive and transmit document images.

These capabilities mirror what U.S. companies do under the Check 21 law, which allows printouts of scanned check images to be treated as the legal equivalent of the original item.

"Unisys is devoted to helping clients throughout the world improve operational efficiencies, increase productivity and gain peace of mind," Marcel Valverde, Unisys' director of technology solutions for Latin America, said in a press release Monday.

"Our partnership with VSoft offers the financial institutions of Latin America sophisticated, easy to use and reliable solutions, helping them to increase security and agility while reducing operational costs," Valverde continued.

Murthy Veeraghanta, VSoft's chairman and managing director, said in the release, "Unisys shares in our goal to help organizations around the world improve competitiveness and drive growth."

VSoft, of Duluth, Ga., said it would also provide settlement and image exchange systems to Unisys customers in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Peru.

It said its offerings adhere to the regulatory requirements of each country.
