VeriFone Sells More Machines in China

As part of its ongoing effort to improve its payment infrastructure, Bank of China Ltd. has bought more terminals from VeriFone Holdings Inc. of San Jose.

Bank of China, one of the country's four state-owned commercial banks, has ordered 16,000 terminals to be delivered this year, VeriFone said Thursday.

Millions of tourists are expected to visit China for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and payment card transaction volume at Chinese merchants is expected to surge.

Bank of China, a longtime VeriFone customer and the sole Chinese bank partner for the games, has ordered two wireless terminals, the VX 610 and the Nurit 8000, as well as a countertop model, the Nurit 2930, which uses dial-up access to authorize card transactions.
