Sungard Data Systems Inc. has hired NCR Corp.'s chief information officer Donald H. Hopkins to be the CIO of its Availability Services Unit.

Lorraine Russell, a spokeswoman for NCR, of Dayton, Ohio, said last week that the automated teller machine company has appointed Bill Van Curen, a member of its technology leadership team, as its interim CIO, and that the company plans to look both inside NCR and externally for a successor for Mr. Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins had been with NCR since 1979 and held several technology positions.
