Virtual Private Networks Using Security Dynamics

Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. said several virtual private network vendors have joined its SecurVPN program to enhance security of remote communications.

Security Dynamics' SecurID authentication technology will combine with the virtual private networks' respective encryption capabilities to safeguard calls over the Internet into computers and data bases.

Security Dynamics, the parent of data encryption leader RSA Data Security Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., offers "two-factor authentication"-a unique, randomly generated passcode in addition to regular passwords at the desktop computer.

With the higher level of security, the Internet becomes a viable alternative to long-distance calls, leased lines, or T-1 lines for data access by remote and traveling workers, business partners, suppliers, or customers.
