The San Francisco company said Thursday that co-founder Marc Hedlund, who had been Wesabe's chief product officer, has taken over the CEO position.

Mr. Knight said in press release that he stepped down to care for his second child, a son who was born last month with "a serious respiratory condition that requires ongoing medical attention and constant care.

"Clearly, during this time, I need to focus my full attention on my family," he said.

Mr. Hedlund wrote on the company's blog that though Mr. Knight's son will require close care for some years, "the prognosis for his long-term health is good."
