Yodlee Inc. has begun selling its same-day bill-payment product as an add-on to rival bill-payment systems.
The Redwood City, Calif., company has been offering bill payment since 2003, and since striking a deal with Western Union Co. in October 2007 it has been able to make same-day payments to hundreds of billers.
Until this week banks that wanted to used Yodlee's expedited payment system had to use its entire bill-pay system.
However, any consumer who uses the expedited payment add-on, PayToday, would be enrolled in Yodlee's system for any of its other products, the company said.
PayToday's development was sped by a round of financing Yodlee received last month to boost its bill-pay business. Mr. Polverari said several Yodlee clients have deployed PayToday, but he would not name them.
Many bill-pay providers have been pitching expedited payments as a way for banks to get revenue from online bill payment, which is widely offered free to consumers.
Yodlee and other vendors say consumers would be willing to pay a fee for a same-day payment if it would mean avoiding an even larger penalty for a late one.
