Citing in part the costs associated with complying with the United Kingdom's Faster Payments Service, which provides quick phone and online funds transfers, ACI Worldwide Inc. Thursday reported a 20% drop in revenues for the second quarter ended 30 June, to US$87.2 million (60.8 million euros) from US$109.2 million during the same period last year. The United States-based vendor of payments software and services posted a net loss of nearly $3.6 million for the quarter; it generated net income of $828,000 for the same period last year. In a statement, the company also blamed the drop in revenue on the negative effects of currency exchanges and costs associated with payment-service switches in the Middle East. During the quarter, ACI secured a long-term "renewal and add-on" deal with an unidentified Dutch bank, a new card-processing software customer in Vietnam and the sale of a risk-management system in New Zealand.
