Allpoint National LLC, which operates a surcharge-free ATM network, has introduced a service that enables consumers to use smartphones to locate the company's 37,500 ATMs in the United States, United Kingdom and Puerto Rico. Consumers can download the ATM-locator application to their BlackBerry, iPhone and Android smartphones, Bethesda, Md.-based Allpoint says. "We developed the application, and we mailed [the software application] to our customers so their customers can download the application," Ben Psillas, Allpoint president, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. "We want to provide turnkey solutions involving technology for our customers." Allpoint developed the application for the BlackBerry, iPhone and Android mobile handsets because they are the most popular smartphones, says Ben Bregman, Allpoint assistant vice president of product development. Customers type "ATMs near me," and the phones' internal global positioning systems connect to Allpoint's database. The phones list the nearest Allpoint ATMs and provide directions, Bregman says. Allpoint is a subsidiary of Houston-based ATM independent sales organization Cardtronics Inc.
