National Australia Bank is giving customers the chance to return credit cards the bank recently issued to them, the financial institution announced Tuesday. The announcement comes after the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, a regulatory body, expressed concern that the bank violated the law by sending unsolicited cards to consumers. Earlier this year, the bank migrated customers who had its Gold Rewards cards to its Qantas Gold cards. The bank, which issues MasterCard- and Visa-branded cards, says it also issued Qantas Gold customers "companion cards" with the American Express brand. "Each [Qantas Gold] customer will now receive an individual letter from" National Australia Bank, the bank says in a statement. "For customers using both cards and who wish to continue doing so, there is no change." The issuer asked customers to reply back to the letter if they did not want to retain the new cards, the statement adds.
