United Kingdom-based Barclaycard, the credit card arm of Barclays PLC, on Monday unveiled a logo designed to look better to Web and mobile-phone customers. The new logo includes the word "barclaycard" next to a circular symbol that "depicts a world that is calm and confident on the outside, whilst warm and vibrant on the inside," according to a Barclaycard statement. Barclaycard plans to attach the new logo to products and services over the next year. The new logo "is a break from the logos used by Barclaycard during the last four decades, which had been designed to be seen on the traditional plastic card," Barclaycard says in a statement. "In creating a symbol that is separated from the brand name, the new logo works better online and on some emerging payment tools such as mobile phones." Barclaycard notes that because of credit card-replacement cycles that can last three years, some cards will carry the old logo until 2011. Barclaycard has some 11.9 million cards on issue in the UK and 11.2 million on issue in other countries.
