Barclaycard US has appointed Shelton Shugar as chief information officer, where he will oversee the company’s U.S. technological operations.
Shugar will work from Barclaycard’s U.S. headquarters in Wilmington, Del., reporting to Roy Aston, CIO for Barclaycard at the corporation’s U.K. headquarters.

Shugar, who has deep expertise in cloud computing, product development and e-commerce, most recently worked for five years at San Francisco-based Hewlett Packard Enterprises as vice president, enterprise cloud services. Previously he held key technology positions at eBay, Yahoo, Verisign and The Thomson Corp., among other companies. Shugar holds an M.S. in computer science from Johns Hopkins University.
Shugar replaces Rashid Desai, who left to become chief technology officer at Burlington, Mass.-based Avid Technology.
“Shelton’s expertise will contribute to driving Barclaycard’s tech growth and execution strategy in this vital market,” said Aston in a press release. “I look forward to working with Shelton as we further develop U.S. technology architecture and embed data into everything we do.”
“The financial services industry is increasingly led by technological capabilities, and each new development is a chance to better serve customers and push the boundaries of innovation,” Shugar added in the release.
