BMO, MasterCard Win Canadian Government Contract

The Canadian government has hired BMO to provide integrated travel and expense management services, in partnership with MasterCard and corporate services provider HRG.

The agreement, which runs through 2022, starts with the deployment of about 100,000 BMO-issued cards to more than 100 government departments and agencies over the next 12 months. The travel and entertainment service consolidates data on all transactions, including those on foreign currency cards.

Canadian government employees will also have access to a global customer support network that answers user queries, manages emergencies and provides Web-based reporting through BMO Details Online.

BMO, which is developing its EMV migration strategy for Canadian corporate travelers who enter the U.S., has served as Canada’s purchasing card solution provider since 2003. BMO and MasterCard did not return requests for comment by deadline.  

BMO has adopted MasterCard’s Travel Dashboard, which allows executives to monitor travel data and monitor spending against budgets. BMO was also an early adopter of the MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

MasterCard’s corporate travel products also include inControl, a program that allows companies to deploy custom controls for card use and real-time alerts on card activity.
