Canada Revenue Agency Accepting Interac Online

IMGCAP(1)]

Interac, Canada's debit card network, says the Canada Revenue Agency is the first major federal government agency to accept Interac Online. Consumers choose the Interac Online payment option upon checkout at a Web site, which opens an Interac Online Web site where they choose their financial institutions to complete a transaction using their banks' online payment service. Taxpayers beginning today can use their Interac-enabled accounts to pay income taxes, Interac says. Consumers make payments directly from their bank accounts without having to share personal financial information or their card numbers, Interac says. Public Works and Government Services Canada, another federal agency, set up the Interac Online capability for the revenue agency, which calls the service "My Payment." Chase Paymentech is the merchant acquirer for the Canada Revenue Agency's Interac Online transactions, Interac says. More than 9.5 million Canadians can use Interac Online, Interac says. An Interac spokesperson tells CardLine it is optimistic that other provincial and federal agencies will adopt Interac Online. "We are certainly confident that many more will come on board in the near future," the spokesperson says.
