Alipay.com Co. Ltd. has signed a deal with Shanghai-based biometric-payment technology vendor Live By Touch to provide a fingerprint payment service to consumers, a spokesperson for the China-based third-party payment-services provider tells CardLine Global. "Pay by Finger" is a technology for retail payment developed by Live by Touch and introduced in Shanghai in 2007 at convenience stores. It enables payments using fingerprint authentication. "Alipay users can register for the service at the designated stores," the spokesperson says. "Users will be given a unique identity-recognition code during the registration with which they can complete applications at the two parties' Web sites." When the consumer swipes his fingerprint on the scanner, the purchase amount is deducted from that consumer's Alipay account, the spokesperson says. Alipay users will be able to use the service at about 10,000 retail stores in Shanghai, the spokesperson adds. Live By Touch provided no immediate comment.
