CorFire, the mobile commerce unit of South Korea-based SK C&C USA, views Europe as a "budding mobile commerce market," the company stated in a Nov. 27 press release.

The company cites a recent Forrester Research report that states 6.8 percent of all European online sales will stem from mobile phones; it also predicts mobile commerce sales will exceed $23 billion by 2017.

CorFire has served customers in South Korea for more than 10 years.

"Mobile payments adoption in North America and Europe is beginning to take off as smartphones become an increasingly integral part of our lives," Jae H. Chung, president and CEO of CorFire, stated in the release. "CorFire's expansion across borders demonstrates our commitment and dedication to equipping mobile network operators, merchants and banks around the world."

CorFire made a significant splash in mobile payments in August, providing the technology behind a Dunkin' Donuts mobile wallet initiative.

A year earlier, CorFire set the stage for its entrance into the U.S. mobile commerce when announcing a venture with Atlanta-based InComm Inc. to provide merchants with a branded mobile wallet with built-in marketing functions.
