Athletes and tourists visiting Delhi for the Commonwealth Games in October 2010 could be able to use payment cards for some taxi rides, a spokesperson for Delhi Cabs, a privately-owned taxi operator, tells CardLine Global. "We will have cabs with credit card swipe machines for making card payments in all our cabs before the games, the spokesperson says. The company operates 500 cabs but plans to have 1,000 by the games, scheduled to run from 3 Oct. to 14 Oct. "We are already talking to banks and card processing operators," the spokesperson says. "We will have vendors fixed by the end of the year." Comment from other cab operators was not immediately available. Separately, the Delhi government is considering the deployment of a contactless, prepaid card system for the city's bus network, a spokesperson for the Transport Ministry tells CardLine Global. The spokesperson declined further comment.
