EBay Permits Virtual Currency Sales in U.S.

EBay Inc. now allows marketplace users in the U.S. to sell virtual currency, such as the popular decentralized cryptocurrency, Bitcoin.

This move is a natural progression, as eBay clarified its policy on the sale of virtual currency in January in the U.K.

"The updated policy will clarify that listings for Bitcoin and other similar virtual currencies must be listed in the Virtual Currency Category in the Classified Ad format," said Steve Heywood, a spokesman for eBay U.K., in January.

The virtual currency category will also be the page for selling mining equipment and contracts.  However, right now "the listings are all classified ads," reports TechCrunch, which says this might mean eBay wants sellers to complete their sales off-site to reduce risk.
