Payments processor Elavon has agreed to provide Belgium's leading postal operator with payment acceptance services at more than 650 locations.
Known as bpost, the Belgian postal service handles 6 million payment transactions annually. Elavon, the payments unit of U.S. Bancorp, will provide acquiring processing for card present transactions, including contactless, at point-of-sale terminals and vending machines. It will also provide services for card-not-present e-commerce transactions on international networks with debit or credit cards.
“The bpost agreement represents our first-ever government services contract in the Benelux market," Hannah Fitzsimons, executive vice president and general manager at Elavon Merchant Services, said in a Monday press release. "The deal is due to our expertise in meeting the unique needs of the public sector across Europe."
In addition, Elavon's singular payments platform "is well-suited to support bpost with their growth strategies,” Fitzsimons said.
Elavon has implemented payment services at bpost’s office branches, using existing point-of-sale and electronic cash registers.
Elavon also facilitates payments for governments, municipalities and the public/private sector in other parts of Europe. The company manages council and motor tax as well as revenue payment services in Ireland and expedites payments for Poland’s aviation and transportation department.
