Donors using the machines would have nine charities and projects from which to choose for making donations, according to the official.

“They can easily pay for any of the eight types of Zakat (prescribed alms by Islam) as well as an optional general charity, including orphans, people with special needs, foodstuff and so forth,” he says.

The society is deploying eight charity ATMs at popular shopping centers and department stores that attract large numbers of people across the United Arab Emirates, according to the official.

An undisclosed local vendor is making the ATMs, which accept debit and credit cards issued by all banks in the federation of emirates, the official says. According to media reports, the society will work with Commercial Bank of Dubai to process these transactions.
