Euronet Worldwide Inc. late yesterday reported a $12.3 million first-quarter net loss; the Leawood, Kansas-based company reported an $8.6 million net loss during the same period last year. Revenues for company, which operates ATMs, processes prepaid card transactions and provides funds-transfer services in 15 countries, totaled $233.7 million, down 4.5% from $244.8 million. The EFT-processing segment reported revenues of $46.2 million, down 4.1% from $48.2 million. EFT transactions processed totaled 159.5 million, down 5.3% from 168.4 million. The segment owned or operated 9,205 ATMs at the end of March, down 22.8% from 11,917 a year earlier. Euronet's ATMs are located primarily in China, Eastern Europe and India. The prepaid-processing segment reported revenues of $134.5 million, down 6.8% from $144.3 million. Transactions totaled 184.3 million, up 10.2% from 167.3 million. Euronet's funds-transfer segment reported revenues of $53 million, up 1.3% from $52.3 million. The company reported a 5.3% increase in funds transfers, to 4 million from 3.8 million a year earlier.
