Facebook to Use PayPal's Braintree Tech for FbStart

Facebook has expanded its relationship with payments provider Braintree, which is part of eBay's PayPal, to power a program for mobile application developers.

Braintree will be the sole payments provider for FbStart, which provides startups with tools and services to develop apps, says Anuj Nayar, PayPal's senior director of global initiatives.

Braintree's "ignition program" waives the fees on the first $50,000 in payments for those mobile developers, Nayar says in a July 2 blog post.

EBay/PayPal's acquisition of Braintree in December 2013 allows the company to better "support the future wave of innovators whether they're a two-person team working out of a garage or a fast-growing startup," Nayar says.

Braintree has previously worked with Facebook to power its Autofill product.

PayPal's developer relations team joined Braintree in January, setting the stage for new offerings for app developers.

Braintree built its business on providing payments software to e-commerce startups like Uber, Fab and Airbnb.
