Filipino Citizens Now Can Pay Government Fees Online

Filipino citizens can now make government payments online using payment cards and mobile-phone wallets under an administrative order the country’s Department of Finance passed with the Department of Trade and Industry, an official from the financial agency tells PaymentsSource.

From now on, “clients will be able to choose from a wide range of e-payment options, such as, but not limited to, credit cards, debit cards, cash cards and mobile phones, to pay for their e-government transactions, the April 7 order notes.

Such transactions include the various fees, charges and other assessments residents pay the government, the official adds. “This move aims to provide convenience for transacting online with government, bringing about a more efficient payment and collection service for government transactions.”

Philippines government agencies previously accepted transactions online but secured final payments offline.

The departments announced in December the creation of a draft proposal to create e-payment rules for government agencies (see story).
