FIS connects to Walgreens for card loyalty program

FIS has added Walgreens as a rewards partner in Premium Payback, its payment card loyalty program for financial institutions using its banking services platform.

Walgreens joins Shell, BP and PayPal as core partners in Premium Payback, which counts 7,000 participating card loyalty programs since the program launched in 2016, according to FIS.

Shoppers with an eligible payment card checking out at Walgreens will now receive a prompt at the payment terminal asking whether they want to apply a credit wroth $10, based on accumulated points. The purchase amount is reduced on the spot by the amount redeemed, FIS said in a Wednesday press release.

“By integrating FIS Premium Payback into its in-store payments network, Walgreens is taking a bold step to bring new levels of savings and value to its customers and drive return shopping,” Bruce Lowthers, president of banking and merchant solutions at FIS, said in the press release.

Consumers who have enrolled credit and debit cards in Premium Payback automatically rack up rewards with each purchase. Earning rates vary by bank.

Four years ago BP was the first merchant to join the FIS Premium Payback program, through a pilot. Shell joined the program last year and early this year PayPal came aboard, enabling consumers to redeem points at PayPal merchants.
