A large German retailer has been testing Hypercom Corp.'s Artema Modular unattended card-payment terminal installed in IBM self-checkout systems, Hypercom announced today. The retailer, which Hypercom would not identify, has 10,000 locations throughout Germany. The first phase of the pilot includes 20 self-checkout lanes in five stores in Bavaria, according to Hypercom. During the next phase of the pilot, Hypercom expects to install the Artema Modular terminal in self-checkout lanes in several more of the retailer's larger stores throughout southern Bavaria.
