Payments processor Heartland Payment Systems Inc. has certified VeriFone Holdings
Inc.'s On The Spot pay-at-the-table terminal for nationwide use, San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone announced last week. Heartland, which is based in Princeton, N.J., will market On The Spot to restaurants under its Tableside brand. The service enables restaurant owners to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard for storing card transaction information, VeriFone says. VeriFone's handheld Vx670 payment terminal can capture tips at the point of service, and restaurant management can use it to monitor an eatery's transaction history from any computer. The Vx670 terminal accepts PIN debit cards.
