Hypercom, VeriFone Issue Product Updates

Hypercom Corp. says its M5000 next-generation mobile point-of-sale terminal will be available next year following merchant tests in the spring and summer.

Hypercom announced the device Dec. 7. The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based terminal maker would not say how much the device will cost, but a spokesperson says the M5000 will be “competitively priced.”

The mobile terminal has a 3.5-inch color touch screen, and its PIN pad complies with the PCI Security Standards Council Payment Transaction Security standard and the triple data encryption standard.

Hypercom also announced that IntelliNAC, a network-access control device, will be available next year following customer testing during the summer. IntelliNAC enables merchants to manage transaction security, which can eliminate the need to hire a third-party company to handle that task, Hypercom says. Hypercom would not say how much an IntelliNAC device will cost.

Separately, San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone Systems Inc. announced Dec. 7 that its line of Vx Evolution POS terminals launched in April now complies with version 3.0 of the Payment Transaction Security standard (see story).

VeriFone plans to buy Hypercom in a $485 million deal its expects to close next year (see story).
