As the urban mobility trend of scooter rentals continues to grow, PayPal's Hyperwallet will have a role in handling outbound payments from rental platform Lime to its network of freelancers who recharge the fleet of scooters.
Lime operates its scooter rental service in more than 100 cities globally, relying on its community of "juicers," or the network of independent workers who keep the scooters running through their recharging sites.
Lime will use Hyperwallet's payout platform to pay their global juicer community on a daily basis.
"Hyperwallet's platform has helped us add value to our juicer program by giving us the ability to offer fast, efficient, self-service payment disbursements," Ryan Foutty, global head of business development at Lime, said in a Wednesday press release. "This partnership allowed us to launch our business in new markets and deliver a great localized experience for juicers all over the world."
Hyperwallet's ability to offer multiple payout methods and disburse local funds in multiple geographies were key factors for Lime, which cited its growing market in Latin America as a key.
"In the last three years, Lime has reimagined urban mobility," Brent Warrington, Hyperwallet's general manager, said in the release. "As people in cities all over the globe look for affordable ways to reduce their dependence on cars, Lime has emerged as a global leader in alternative, affordable and environmentally-friendly presentation."
Hyperwallet has offices in San Francisco, Austin, London, Sydney and Vancouver.
