A government five-year plan, which covers from 2012 to 2017, includes the complete migration of payments for government services to online and mobile platforms to combat corruption and to bring transparency to the process.

The Department of Information technology is spearheading the project. Once completed in March, the gateway will support the collection of fees for licenses and other services in 11 states, according to the Economic Times.

A spokesperson for the agency confirmed the report but could not provide additional comments.

The government is conducting a proof of concept test with the state of Maharashtra and is prepared to produce standard guidelines to replicate the process throughout the country.

The department chose National Securities Depository Ltd. as the technology provider for the service, which will accept payments for approximately 20 services, including those provided by both the central and state governments.

The states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Goa will be among the early adopters of this platform, which the department expects will process at least 10 million transactions annually.
