Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd. expects to double its credit card base by the end of its fiscal year, an official from the Tuticorin, India-based bank tells CardLine Global. "We currently have around 5,000 credit cardholders," the spokesperson says. "Our target is 10,000 by the end of the March 2010." The bank issues a proprietary bank-branded credit card and has no card-issuing relationship with Visa Inc. or MasterCard Worldwide, the spokesperson says. "We are going to be now actively tapping our huge deposit and accountholder base, which is above the 1 million mark," the spokesperson adds.
