Commuters on the Delhi Metro rail network soon will be able to use their credit, debit and dual-function cards to make payments at the stations for various types of services, a spokesperson for the Delhi Metro Rail Corp. tells PaymentsSource.
The operator initially plans to install multiservice payment machines, or kiosks, in 20 Metro stations by the end of this month that commuters may use to pay their electricity and water bills, insurance premiums, cable television recharges, and rail, air and cinema tickets, the spokesperson says.
“Currently, though, they can only pay their postpaid mobile bills or recharge their prepaid mobiles,” he says. “We have installed only four of the 20 planned kiosks so far.”
Denvas Services Pvt. Ltd. manufactured and is installing the kiosks, also known as Unipay machines, the spokesperson says. The touch-screen devices enable the user to select the desired mobile service provider. The user then types in his or her mobile number using the keypad and completes the transaction by inserting cash in a designated slot or by swiping a payment card.
Once the rollout is complete in February, the kiosks will be deployed in all 132 of Delhi Metro’s operational stations.
