Indonesia’s Finnet chooses Cellum for mobile payments

Electronic payment provider Finnet will deliver its service in Indonesia through a partnership with Cellum and its Mobile Next platform.

Finnet, a member of the Telkom Group in Indonesia, will provide the telco and merchants with QR code-based proximity and remote mobile payments, stressing its use for mobile parking, airtime top-up on smartphones, utility bill payments and in-store purchases. The launch is scheduled for the second half of 2017.

“We are bringing next-generation mobile commerce services to the partnership," Cellum CEO Janos Koka said in a Feb. 28 press release. "Transactions will be secure and quick, with the best-in-class user experience for smartphone customers."

Southeast Asia, and especially Indonesia, plays a key role in Cellum’s market strategy, Koka added.

Adding funding sources, including acceptance of bank cards, and other services will be part of later stages of the deployment.

As the platform provider, Cellum says it will incorporate banking-grade PCI-DSS compliant back-end and payment applications to approximately 150 million smartphone users as potential clients.

The service will be operator-agnostic, available for both banked and unbanked individuals, fostering financial inclusion in the country of nearly 260 million.

“Finnet and Cellum jointly possess all ingredients for a successful digital payment transformation in Indonesia," Niam Dzikri, CEO of Finnet, said in the release. "As an aggregator of utility bills, mobile top-up services and merchant solutions, we want to make transactions cheaper, more secure, convenient and ubiquitously available to our partners and customers.”

Finnet crafted a similar deal with Mozido and Verifone Mobile Money in late 2015 to provide a Near Field Communication mobile wallet to Telkomsel Indonesia phone-service subscribers.
