Intuit now lets iPad owners who use its GoPayment mobile card reader scan credit and debit cards with the tablet's built-in camera.
Users access the new feature by selecting "scan card" within the GoPayment app, then holding the card in front of the device's camera to complete the transaction. The transactions are charged at the card-not-present rate, starting at 2.75%.
Intuit has offered the feature to iPhone users since March. One in six GoPayment users has tried using a credit card, the company says in a June 21
The addition is designed to give merchants a way to accept card payments if they forget to bring the GoPayment card reader, Intuit says. The reader attaches to a phone or tablet to allow merchants to accept swiped card payments.
