Intuit Inc. announced a service Thursday that lets small businesses accept credit cards using mobile phones.

The Mountain View, Calif., company said its GoPayment service works with any handset that has access to the Internet. Intuit also offers a downloadable application for certain BlackBerry, Sanyo and Motorola handsets, and it said an optional card reader is available to capture and transmit magnetic-stripe data using wireless Bluetooth technology.

It is offering merchant accounts, Intuit said, and customers of the service need not be users of its QuickBooks accounting software.
