Jason Oxman is leaving his CEO position at the Electronic Transactions Association to become the president and CEO of the Information Technology Industry Council, a position he will assume in late February.
The ITI board of directors Thursday announced its election of Oxman as the council's next leader.
Oxman has held the CEO position at the ETA since 2012, becoming the voice of the ETA throughout the payments industry and establishing his trademark bowtie as one of his calling cards. He will stay on at ETA until the end of February.
“We are grateful to Jason for his service as ETA’s CEO at a pivotal time in the evolution of our industry," said Kevin Jones, CEO of Celero Commerce and chairman and president of the ETA.
Oxman doubled the size of the ETA in his seven years, while helping transform ETA into "the global voice of the payments technology industry," Jones said in a press release.
Before joining the ETA, Oxman was senior vice president of industry affairs at the Consumer Technology Association, which he joined in 2006, leading multiple departments.
Previously, he served as general counsel of an information and communications technology industry trade association and as vice president of a Silicon Valley-based technology company. He also worked at the Federal Communications Commission to develop and implement technology policy for broadband and related communications services.
"I am enormously grateful to have had the opportunity to lead ETA for the past seven years, as the payments technology industry experienced unprecedented innovation and change," Oxman said in an ETA statement. "Most of all, I am proud to have led a team of the most incredible industry professionals and volunteer leaders who have made, and will continue to make, ETA the true voice of the payments industry."
As he moves on to ITI to lead an organization considered the voice of the tech sector, Oxman said he won't stray too far from payments. "I look forward to staying connected to this great industry," he added.
Oxman began his legal career as a law clerk for the Maine Supreme Court, and he is also a former broadcast journalist. He received his B.A. cum laude from Amherst College, and his M.S. and J.D. from Boston University. Oxman lives in Virginia with his wife Annemarie and their two sons.
