Kawanishi also was named vice chairman of JCB International Co. Ltd., a wholly owned international credit card brand subsidiary of JCB Co. Ltd. Takura, who is JCB International chairman and CEO, and Koremitsu Sannomiya, its president and chief operating officer, will remain in those roles.

Kawanishi joined JCB in May as an adviser from the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd., where he was deputy president since April 2008.

With prospects for the Japanese economy still dismal after years of stagnation, JCB has been looking abroad for growth (see story).

JCB International recently signed an agreement that enables JCB’s customers to use their credit cards at merchant customers of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) in Hong Kong and Macao (see story).
