Sears Holding Corp.’s Kmart department stores have begun offering an improved version of Western Union Co.’s walk-in bill payment service.

The service, announced April 18, enables consumers to pay bills at any of the more than 1,200 U.S. Kmart locations. Unlike an earlier version of the service, it does not require consumers to fill out forms after the first transaction, and it does not require “code cities” to identify certain billers.

“Western Union’s enhanced bill-pay service provides a full slate of billers to pay with greater ease than before,” Dave Schuvie, Sears vice president for licensed businesses, said in a press release. “Not only do consumers benefit, but our associates also appreciate the streamlined, shortened payment process.”
