Malaysian citizens now may use their Touch n’ Go contactless transit cards to pay for parking at stations in the local subway network in select cities, a spokesperson for the local transport authority Rapid KL tells PaymentsSource.
“They will be able to use the same card to pay for bus, train and parking fees,” she says. “With this expansion, we also want to give preference to our customers who use the local train network and thus park their vehicles there.”
The Touch n’ Go card is an electronic purse consumers may use at all highways in Malaysia, bus and rail networks, and some theme parks. The prepaid card uses the Mifare contactless technology.
Cardholders may reload their cards at toll plazas, train stations, ATMs, petrol kiosks and at authorized third-party outlets in denominations ranging from 20 ringgits (US$6 or 5 euros) to 500 ringgits. The cards can be loaded up to a maximum of 1,500 ringgits.
