McDonald's in Sweden Adds Seamless' SEQR Wallet to Mobile App

McDonald's customers throughout Sweden can now pay for their meals with their phone using Seamless' QR code-based mobile wallet, SEQR, from within the McDonald's app.

The integration allows customers to pay for their order by scanning a QR code and entering a personal PIN at checkout. The McDonald's app has about half a million active users per month. The two companies are offering customers a discount on a cheeseburger when paying with SEQR.

"The app already included information on offers and our menu complete with nutrition and allergy information and engaging campaigns," says Kaisa Dahlberg, head of digital engagement for McDonald's Sweden, in a Mar. 10 press release. "Now our Swedish guests can also make smooth and fast payments through the app."

Users can also initiate person-to-person payments through the SEQR app plus save digital receipts, pay for parking and connect loyalty programs.

Seamless, which is based in Sweden, has seen quite a bit of adoption in its home country. In December, the Swedish pharmacy chain Apoteksgruppen launched the SEQR mobile wallet. And in January, Visita, a Swedish hospitality industry and employers organization, signed an agreement to use SEQR.

McDonald's, which has 34,000 restaurant locations in nearly 120 countries, has been a partner for testing multiple payments products, including technology from PayPal and Isis.
